Justin Bieber heads to LA studio amid bid for UK Christmas number one with NHS Choir collaboration – Daily Mail

He recently teamed up with the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir to release a charity rendition of his and Chance the Rapper’s mega-hit Holy.

And Justin Bieber was back in creative mode once again on Friday, as he made his way to a recording studio in Burbank, California.

The Canadian pop superstar, 26, stepped out in casually cool style, donning a smiley face black T-shirt from his Drew clothing line with logo tracksuit bottoms.

With a white knitted beanie from the brand resting atop his wavy long mane, the Sorry hitmaker rounded out his relaxed ensemble with white Nike basketball shoes.

The star’s outing comes as he launches a bid for the UK’s coveted Christmas number one spot after teaming up with the NHS singers for a reworking of his track Holy.

In 2015, the star was beaten by the choir when their charity single, A Bridge Over You, became the UK’s Christmas number one, over his hit Love Yourself.

At the time, the singer had encouraged his millions of Twitter followers to buy the NHS song in order to help it reach the top of the chart.

Justin and the choir recently reunited to record the new version of Holy, with all profits going to NHS Charities Together and Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Charity – to support medical workers on frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The choir recorded the new song at the iconic Abbey Road studios in London, with Justin saying: ‘It’s great to be reunited with the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS choir, as we share a fun bit of UK chart history together.

‘Especially in these difficult times, I’m humbled to team up with them for a charity single that will benefit NHS workers on the frontlines of this pandemic and pay tribute to their unbelievable dedication.’

Caroline Smith, Children’s Community Physiotherapist and and leader of the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Choir, added: ‘Justin Bieber helped make our dreams come true in 2015 and he’s doing the same this year.

‘We really can’t thank him enough for the chance to work with him on this wonderful, uplifting song. We’re so proud to represent Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and all the heroes in the NHS.’

Back in 2015, Justin was widely praised for his selfless gesture after tweeting: ‘So for 1 week it’s ok not to be #1. Let’s do the right thing & help them win. It’s Christmas. @Choir_NHS good luck. (sic)’

The ‘Yummy’ singer later met up with members of the choir to congratulate them.

The contenders had been neck-and-neck for a week in 2015, with just 622 sales between them on Christmas Eve – but the choir enjoyed a late boost, taking them to the top of the yuletide chart by 31,000 singles.

They finished with a total combined chart sales of more than 127,000 copies. In contrast, Bieber sold around 97,000 copies of his single, according to a press release sent to MailOnline.

The battle for Christmas No 1 was the closest seen since Rage Against The Machine’s scintillating victory over The X Factor’s Joe McElderry in 2009 with their song, Killing In The Name.

The NHS choir of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, midwives and administration staff was formed by TV chorister Gareth Malone in 2012 during his programme ‘The Choir: Sing while you work.’

Back in May, Justin  donated profits from Stuck With U, his charity single with Ariana Grande to the US charity First Responders Children’s Foundation’, who support first responders and their families.

Though Justin is clearly excited for Christmas, the singer-songwriter is also just as hyped for his upcoming New Year’s Eve performance.

‘Prepping for New Years see u there,’ captioned Bieber, who shared a rehearsal photo with his fans on Tuesday.

He first started sharing teasers of the performance on Monday, writing: ‘Gettin ready for this live show on New Years make sure to check it out’

Earlier this year, Bieber released his fifth studio album Changes, which featured his hit single Yummy.

It’s unclear whether or not the star will perform/debut new tracks during his New Year’s Eve spot or if he will gave fans a taste of what he had planned for his Changes Tour.

Prior to the coronavirus pandemic lockdown in March, Justin had planned to tour his latest record, with the first tour date set for June 2.

But, unfortunately, the tour was forcibly postponed due to COVID-19 health and safety concerns.
